The Freak Out Portion of my Life

I am tired of the following cycle:

Have period.
Live life.
Spot randomly.
Period is late.
Freak out because period is late.

I am currently in the freak out portion of my life.  Again.

Not because I am irresponsible.  Just because nothing is 100 percent and I don't go to the doctor.  I can't.  I also can't afford a baby or an abortion. Or health insurance or a doctor.

Why couldn't my idiot ob/gyn in the days when I had insurance just have agreed to let me have that hysterectomy I so badly wanted?

Not everyone wants kids.  When will American medicine recognize this?  My body, my life. I am not a soldier-making machine for this country...which I believe is what the underlying issue toward women in this country being in control of their own bodies.

So I get to spend days and days and days of my life which adds up over the years to an abominable amount of my life, most likely, freaking out wondering what to do if I am indeed infested with a parasite that I don't want or need.

more on hair bleach

Found a better way to section hair to bleach the roots...but wish I had more patience and more talent for using a second mirror in the back of my head while brandishing a bleach brush.

I have also come to the conclusion that I am lucky in that my skin easily works with most hair colors...or I just instinctively stay away from colors that don't work for me.

Me with my cherry brown hair, experimenting with bleach.

L

Same colors, perhaps more bleach, shorter hair.

I had been cherry brown so many years, I really don't have access to any photos of my natural light brown/red brown/dark brown mix.  My parents have those photos.  At least 6 years of red dye before experimenting with the bleach...because I had always heard awful things about bleach.

Today, after the latest root job and my weekly hot oil treatment.

The hot oil really helps.  I don't use any thing special, just hot olive oil that we use for cooking, helps combat the dryness from the bleach and from this awful cold, snowy, dry winter.

Hmmm...keep thinking I am starting to look my age...but I look much younger in blonde.  36?  I sure look younger than mom did at this age.

But although some of the ends of my hair are quite dry, my hair was in really great condition before the bleach, and I think that is the real secret.  None of it has fallen out, although I am cautious about the length of time I leave the bleach on my hair; and yes, I have had some breakage, but near the ends, so next haircut will eliminate that, most of the breakage is due to stripping out the red plus the bleach.  The hair regrowth itself has not been damaged.

And so goes the quest to eliminate hair doldrums.

Just this

A sad link to a sad topic.

Sometimes news from the home world isn't all wine and roses.

Can't say I knew these folks, but I bet I know some folks who knew them well.

All About Being a Platinum Blonde

It's easy, if your hair doesn't grow freakishly fast like mine.

In my case, I have to bleach my roots every two weeks.  To do the back of my head, well, I think I may have to enlist my pal Ruth, as my husband, who loves the blonde hair seems to lack patience for helping.  It's just going to look skunky back there for a bit as I lack the ability to properly use a mirror to aid in this process or swivel my head like an owl.

I have gotten good feedback, but have not experienced the blondes have more fun phenomena.  Luckily for me, I have a nice, cool, pale skin tone so blonde, red, and brown all work for me.  Black, well, I'm not going there, it ages a lot...and I am not a spring chicken.  If I had more gray, blonde would be much less work.  As it is, I have strands of sporadic metallic silver and I would not be upset if my whole head was that color...it's really pretty, actually.

I like change.  My hair gets boring, and I never really liked the original mouse brown I was born with. If it had been three shades darker, it would have been more flattering.  The underlying nape of the neck color was medium brown and nice, while the upper bits varied from gray brown to red to sun bleach dark blonde.

Also I've been several shades of dark red for the past six years, which was simple to maintain since it wasn't drastic and I already had some red tones.

It's kind of fun looking in the mirror and seeing a blonde for a change.

I know I'll get bored eventually and fed up with the maintenance, but then, I will just go purple.  Yep. Hot purple.

In the meantime, I feel kinda like Mae West, who wasn't a string bean, and neither am I.

Obligatory Horrible Cold Post

Got to go home to Ohio for the new year, visited, dodged two snowstorms (made it back to Michigan before the big storm that dumped a foot of snow and made it ultra cold and miserable), and had more broken car adventuring.

I have had enough broken car adventuring to last me the rest of forever.  If I could crawl into a hibernation hole and emerge to better luck and more money, I certainly would.  Or just figure out how to teleport.  That would be ideal.  No car to feed or break, and no car insurance to pay.  Too bad I don't understand physics or other useful sciences.

I really need to get on finding a job closer to home.  I've been a receiver for nearly a year...should be able to get something, right?  $10 an hour would go further if I worked closer to home, but I'd really like to make closer to $15.  I'm worth that.

That said, a nice long sleep sounds great after the week I've had trying to catch up after no one was scheduled to do my job while I was off last week.  Ridiculous.  It's almost like if I don't keep them busy by asking for favors, no one does.  Why  I not the manager?  I guess I'm not smarmy enough and not willing to suck clock to curry corporate favor.

Xmas

We started Xmas shopping yesterday.  It's going to be pretty modest. Something for a friend's toddler, something for a Max, something for Jon's Mom.  My parents' gift is going to be a drive down after New Year's Eve...and kinda my gift as well as its more expensive than in my parked four banger. We're feeding a V 6 as that is what is working at the moment.

Toddler gifts are easy.  He gets a couple cute books and a toddler size chair I found at the Salvation Army.  Had to deal with the legs as it only had feet on one side so it wasn't level, but I just ripped those off and taped over all the sharp bits on all four legs with electrical tape.  Nice and level now.  And one of the books has a ripped page but it was too cute with an actual story and nice illustrations that I really don't think it will matter.  It was obviously a much loved book.  The other book is just silly, full of colorful animals with googly eyes.

Jon's Mom was simple.  She got a few horrible movies, but her taste in movies leans  to the horrible.

Max is probably getting an Amazon gift card or some such.  I have no idea what 15 year old boys would like...or 15 year old in general.

The stores were predictably horrible.  It doesn't help that I work retail..  some woman yelled at a worker "Hey, Girl, how come this self check out don't work?"  That worker, being nicer than I would have been, fixed the machine.  I would just have walked away. Don't talk down to people if you want them to help you.

I heard someone call Crystal "Little Girl" a week ago.  She wasn't offended, but I would have been.  I would have educated that man.  Perhaps by referring to him as "Old Hilbilly."  Hey, as long as we're calling each other by obvious physical attributes.

Mid December

Currently, there is snow.  I not so happily scraped 3 inches off the porch.  It is still snowing.
Non Exploder Jeep needs a belt and water pump which has left us stranded for a few days. Ed is busy and not in love with the prospect of snowy cold and working on a cooling system when we don't have a garage.  Hopefully he will still do this even though we will have to drive squealing Jeep to the in law's house, evict Exploder Jeep and work there.  If not, I guess my friend Jess is willing to help us do it ourselves...or I can stay with Ruth until things get sorted.

Santa the UPS man was here.  I now have much bleaching powder and developer.  I doused a bit of my hair and am a bit more ginger than I would like.  Never fear.  I will likely (once I can get to a store) buy some purple shampoo to tone it down.  Plans are to dye it purple, but I should wait until after the holidays and inventory as this is against the dress code for work.  Says nothing about being a ginger, though.  At least it isn't clown orange.  The other solution is to re bleach, but since I don't wish to fry my hair, that will wait a while.

I also got this nifty little razor comb and gave myself a haircut.  Not bad for a 6 dollar disposable thing...I will buy another when it dulls.  Much easier to thin out my sporadically thick spots.

I am waiting on Jon to come home.  Hoping we can borrow a car to go buy some groceries as our supplies are very low and I am hungry.  We didn't need many things last week so did not buy much.  Should have, I suppose.

We are planning on seeing my parents after the New Year.  Hope the weather cooperates.  Seems like a really early cold and snow this year.  Lots of years there is no snow until after the New Year.  I also hope all mechanical and electronic things cooperate as 2013 has been horrid on cars and computers for us.

I am writing this on a touch screen and I very much hate auto correct and touch screens.  Give me a nice old fashioned keyboard any day.
